Of Larks and Zears … Part 2

Dear reader,

Here we shall continue this yarn of the past… Part 1: Of Larks and Zears

Learning of his son’s death, at the hand of the Lark prince the king of Zears, not knowing of SkyLarks banishment, declared war upon the Lark family. He now demanded the prince and king of Larks heads, and the queen and princess to be claimed by whoever were to succeed him to rule. The Zears had the numbers, the Larks had the power, in the end, both sides lost many.

Snow and Sky hunted the Zears as well,  slaying several of the heirs and eventually even killing the king.  The queen of Zears, pregnant with a son, escaped with her youngest daughter and fled deep into the shadow plane.  The war between the Larks and Zears lasted many years.

EyeLark, seeing that the Lark family was slowly starting to dissolve on the inside, as many wondered why the war with the Zears had begun. Talk of the banished prince, marrying the princess of Silvas, had led several within the family to doubt the king and queen.  Princess SeaLark had remained unmarried, and the 2 sons that SkyLark fathered with her, had been raised as the king and queen’s children, and no one within the Lark family knew of the truth. EyeLark asked the king of Larks, his older brother, for the right to marry SeaLark and that he rule the family, to prevent it from falling apart.  The king of Larks refused and thus EyeLark challenged him to a duel.

During the duel, StormLark, the eldest twin brother of SeaLark and SkyLark intervened and stabbed the king of Larks in the back, a wound that would end the king’s life. The sword StormLark used, was the same blade that the now long-dead, king of Crimson once held. SeaLark learning of her father’s death, at the hands of her own son, took her own life. The queen of Larks silently took the souls of her daughter, and her husband and fled the Larks. StormLark claimed before the Larks that he was now king,  A claim that his younger brother GreenLark challenged.  GreenLark and EyeLark revealed to the family that StormLark had slain the King, and this made the family’s support split into two factions.

DeathLark had lost the creation core, its mother had lost herself to madness. DeathLark sent EyeLark to find the missing core, and its mother Phearyka. GreenLark and StormLark held a duel to decide who would lead the family, during the battle GreenLark lost his life, and his soul was absorbed into the sword of Crimson.  DeathLark oversaw the duel and revealed the truth that StormLark and GreenLark were, in fact, the sons of the lost prince and princess. The family once again divided, some choosing to follow StormLark, others choosing to follow EyeLark, and others choosing to instead follow DeathLark. StormLark ordered that his true father, Skylark, be found, and slain to secure his right to the throne.

During this time, the queen of Larks visited her son, Skylark, and Snow Silvas. During the Battle against the Zears, Snow had been injured.  The Queen explained what had happened to the family since Sky was banished. She asked for Sky to come back and fix things.  Sky refused to return, the family he once was a part of had nothing for him.  The Lark queen healed Snow, and secretly imparted her husband’s soul to both of them before she parted ways.  Unknown to Sky and Snow, who then decided to start their own family, the Hawks, their first son, Nykasar, was the reincarnation of the king of Larks.  Several years passed, and Sky and Snow had 4 children, Nykasar, Nesclair, Vanni, and Clearisa.

EyeLark’s quest for the creation core led to one failure after another. Each time he would reach it, the core would block him and escape.  Eventually, he gave up on his quest, having learned much about the core, and its resilience. His search for his sister Phearyka only leads him to find a trail of blood and death. He eventually found her with a child and decided to leave her be. Upon his return to the Larks, he discovered that DeathLark and StormLark had led the family into the grips of a civil war. Neither of them was able to claim the throne as SkyLark was still alive, and hidden from them. EyeLark once again tried to rally the family under one banner but failed. In the end, his efforts earned himself a larger share of the family. He decided he was done with the rest of them and left with the larger remaining group of the family to form his own kingdom.

The queen of Larks waited for many years, staying with her younger sister and brother Vackus and Evelinalmeia. She eventually approached Nykasar and awoke in him the memories of his time as the king of Larks.  She presented the soul of SeaLark, their daughter to him.  Nykasar and Ninalmeia left and never said a word to Sky or Snow.

Eventually, the soldiers of Larks made their way to SkyHawk and SnowHawk’s home. The two fought off the attackers, and realizing that they would never stop hunting them, Sky decided to return to the Larks and face his son, StormLark. Snow and Sky went together and confronted the Larks.  StormLark saw the perfect opportunity and killed his father with the same sword of Crimson, absorbing Sky’s soul into the sword.  Snow managed to beat StormLark back and steal the sword from him. Snow fled,  having been seriously injured during the battle, she collapsed at her parents.

StormLark, successfully killing his father, now stood to claim the throne of the Larks, but DeathLark wouldn’t have it. Another battle broke out, that destroyed the Lark family’s home, and DeathLark and StormLark went their separate ways the rest of the family followed their respective chosen leader.  The Larks were never to be united again.

Here we shall part once again dear reader, there is yet more to tell apart of this yarn of history. May your souls shine as bright of the stars, until we meet again in the next chapter.

  1. Phearyka was also known as FearLark. Most of the larks’ names, SkyLark, BlueLark, etc, were actual titles that they used to identify themselves, to be known as a member of that family.
The Hawks had a similar way, but they didn’t use it as much. For example, Vanni was known as Silvawk, or SilverHawk.

BlueLark (The Lark King) had several brothers and sisters, TealLark (Queen, Ninalmeia), AzureLark (Vackus), VioletLark (Evelinalmeia), EyeLark (Eyaldias), Phearyka (FearLark), and Dershadrawk (VoidLark).
